"Keep Your Cash" Investment Game

Tim Morrell

Aim of the Game

To be the player who has lost the least money after participating in 7 rounds of risky investments!

Overview of game

Each player has their own “investment” board. There are 7 sections on the board, one for each of 7 rounds of investments. The term “investment” is used loosely as the players can never make any money but can always lose it!

Printable Investment Board Game - Standard Board

Each round is a different type of investment. E.g. racehorses, films, mining. Round 1 is banking. The round 1 section of the board lists 6 different banks. However two of these are crossed out. The crossed-out items vary from board to board.

Each player starts with 10 coins. They need to allocate these over the 6 banks. However they cannot place any money on the two crossed out banks. Nor can they place more than 5 coins on any one bank.

Once everyone has allocated their money the party host rolls a dice which causes one of the banks to crash! Any player who has money invested in that bank loses it. Players gather up their remaining coins and move onto round 2 – mining. They again invest their money. When they have done so two of the mines will flood losing any money invested in them. The remaining 5 rounds work in a similar manner.

The winner is the person who has the most money remaining at the end of round 7.

Preparation you will need to do before the party

  • Obtain one dice.
  • Obtain ten small “coins” for each player. These don’t necessarily have to be coins. Matchsticks or buttons would work just as well. Alternatively you can cut out the “square coins” at the end of the PDF file.

Game Set Up

  1. The Party Host should take the dice. They should also take the board marked “Party Host's Board”.
  2. Each player should take one of the playing boards that does have crossed-out items.
  3. Each player should take ten coins.

Playing the game

  1. In Round 1 all players need to allocate their ten coins among the six banks. They cannot place more than 5 coins on a single bank. They cannot place any coins on the two banks that are crossed out.
  2. When all players are happy with their coin allocations the party host should throw the dice. Looking at their party host playing board they will discover which bank has failed. They should announce the name of the failed bank to the players. All coins placed on the failed bank are lost and should be removed from the game.
  3. Players now place their remaining coins on the round 2 mining companies.
  4. When all players are happy with their coin allocations the party host should throw the dice. The number rolled will reveal the first mine that has flooded. All coins placed on this mine have been lost and are removed from the board.
  5. The party host rolls the dice and reveals the second mine that has flooded. All coins placed on this mine are also lost. If the party host rolls the same number as they did initially then they should keep rolling until a second mine floods.
  6. The remaining rounds are played in a similar manner. The player with most coins after round 7 is the winner.
