What is a Board Game Tournament?

A Board Game Tournament is a party for between 2 and 20 people. At the party two or more different PartyPDF Board Games will be played. Each individual game is played simultaneously by all players. This means there is no player downtime. At the end of each game all players will score a variable number of points. Each player records there points on their Master Score Sheet. The next game is then played. When all the games have been played each player totals the points on their Master Score Sheet. The player with the most points is the tournament champion.

How many games are played at a tournament and how long will it take?

The number of games you play during a tournament is entirely up to you. Each game will take about 25 minutes to play.

If you purchase one of our Themed Tournament Packs your guests will be playing four different games. With a five minute break between each game this means that your tournament will last about two hours.

What games should I choose for my tournament?

This is entirely up to you! All the PartyPDF Board Games can be mixed and matched to make up your ideal tournament! However to make it easier for you, PartyPDF also provide Themed Tournament Packs.

If you are choosing your own set of games it is recommended that you choose a selection of Game Types as explained below.

What are the different Game Types?

 

  • Bingo Games. Players have a bingo card containing 15 items. The bingo caller announces items at random. Players cross out items of their bingo cards as items are announced. The first player to cross out all 15 items is the winner. A point scoring version can also be played.

 

  • Race Games. Players are moving their playing pieces by roll of the dice, racing towards an ultimate destination. They will encounter both hazards and assistance along the way.

 

  • Stay Alive Games. Players are trying to protect either their playing pieces or some other resource from being depleted or taken out of the game.

 

  • Point Scoring Games. Players will be gaining points throughout the game. At the end of the game the player with the greatest number of points is the winner.

 

  • Deduction Games. Players will be asking questions and using the answers to eliminate possibilities, hoping that at the end of the game they will be left with the one and true solution.

 

  • Set Collection Games. Players will be trying to collect specific sets of items. Sometimes the game may simply be a race to see who can select a specific set first. Other times different sets may have different values and the player whose collection of sets have the greatest value will be the winner.

 

  • Task Completion Games. Players have a certain task to complete. The first player to do this is the winner. Other players may score points according to how much of the task they have completed.

 

 

Am I limited to just using the PartyPDF Board Games?

Certainly not. All the PartyPDF Bingo Games can be used as part of a tournament, as can all the PartyPDF Team Games & Challenges. All these items come with clear instruction as to how points should be awarded to players at the end of the game.


The only games that cannot be used in a tournament are the “Murder in an Hour” Murder Mystery Games.

Can the PartyPDF games be played outside of a Board Game Tournament?

Yes, all the PartyPDF games come with instructions on how to play them as Standalone Games. This allows you to play just one game as an ice breaker or activity at the start of your get-together.

What is the minimum age for players?

The games are all relatively simple so can be played by anyone aged from nine to ninety! It is advised that players aged eight or under play alongside an adult who can assist them if necessary.

All games come with introductory speeches which you the Game Host reads aloud to explain the rules.
