Royal Flush Plinko

Tim Morrell

Aim of the Game

To be the first player to land their 5 plinko coins onto the Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten of Hearts and therefore create a Royal Flush poker hand.

Overview

Each player has a playing board similar to the one shown in the picture below.

Printable Plinko Board Game - Standard Board

Each board has a different arrangement of blacks/red, highs/lows and odds/evens.

Each player has five coins. They place one of these coins on the start square at the top of the board.

From a deck of playing cards the party host removes the aces, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes, sevens and eights. They shuffle these cards and deal one card face up.

The playing card they reveal will have three individual properties. It can either be:

  • Red or black.
  • Odd (ace, three, five, seven) or even (two, four, six or eight).
  • High (five, six, seven, eight) or low (ace, two, three or four).

The party host announces aloud the three properties of the card. E.g. if it was the 6 of hearts they would announce “Red, High, Even”.

Each player now guides their coin halfway down the plinko board according to the properties announced. If the board above was being used the coin would end up on the "two spot" dice towards the right of the boar on the fourth row down.

When all players have moved their coin the party host deals the next card face up and announces its properties. Players move their coin down the plinko board in a similar manner. The coin will reach the bottom row of the plinko board and drop into one of the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten or Joker pockets.

If the coin lands in the Ace, King, Queen, Jack or Ten pocket they place their coin on the appropriate card at the bottom of the board. If the coin lands in either of the Joker pockets they can place their coin on whichever of the five cards they like.

All players now place a second coin at the top of the plinko board. The party host again deals a card calling out its three properties. Players move their coin down the board according to the properties announced. The party host deals a second card and again players move their coin causing it to land on either the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten or Joker pockets.

  • If it arrives on a different card to last time then they place their coin on the new card and put their third coin onto the start square.
  • If it arrives on the same card as last time then they return the coin to the start square.

Play continues in this manner. Players will begin covering the 5 cards at the bottom of the board with their coins as they obtain their first Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.

As soon as a player has covered all 5 cards they shout “Royal Flush”. The first player to do this is the winner of the game.

Preparation you will need to do before the party

  • Obtain a pack of 52 playing cards. Remove the Kings, Queens, Jacks, Tens and Nines and put these cards back in the box. You will be left with the aces, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes, sevens and eights.
  • Obtain 5 small coins for each player.

Game Set Up

  1. Give one game board and 5 coins to each player.
  2. The Party Host should take the pack of 36 cards and shuffle them.

Playing the Game

  1. The Party Host should deal out a card and call out its three characteristics. E.g. “Red, Odd, Low”.
  2. All players should move their coin down the plinko board accordingly.
  3. The party host should deal another card and call out its three characteristics.
  4. All players should move accordingly. Their coin should now reach the bottom of the board, landing in either a joker, ace, king, queen, jack or ten pocket.
  5. They should move the coin onto the appropriate card at the bottom of the board. If they landed on a joker then they can place their coin on any card.
  6. Keep repeating the “deal a card and move” mechanism with the other coins.
  7. If a coin ends up on a card that already has a coin on it, the newly arrived coin should be returned to the START square at the top of the plinko board.
  8. The first player to get their five coins onto an ace, a king, a queen, a jack and a ten should shout out “Royal Flush”. They are the winner.
